NIKHEF, Amsterdam

NIKHEF coordinates and supports the main activities in experimental subatomic physics in the Netherlands. NIKHEF is a joint venture of the foundation for fundamental research FOM ('Fundamenteel Onderzoek der Materie') and four universities with physicists working at the NIKHEF institute (Amsterdam), the University of Amsterdam, the Free University Amsterdam, the University of Utrecht and the University of Nijmegen.

Experiments are performed at accelerators of foreign institutes like CERN (Geneva) and DESY (Hamburg).

The educational programme of graduate students working in subatomic physics are coordinated within the Research School Subatomic Physics.

Detail of the former accelerator facility at NIKHEF, Amsterdam
The facility has been dismantled and shipped to Russia (Dubna).
