The nuclear power plant in Dodewaard, the KCD (56 MWe), was closed in March 1997. This
was decided by the Dutch electricity generating board (SEP). The plant was
too small to be competitive on the emerging electricity market. The plant had
served its purpose in reactor research and had participated in among others the SBWR
project (SBWR = Simplified Boiling Water Reactor). An interesting feature of the KCD
was its natural circulation.
