Joint Research Center (JRC), Petten

The Joint Research Centers (JRCs) are the focal point for Industry and support to the European policy-making process through research, knowledge and understanding in the scope of advanced and conventional materials as well as advanced engineering for a safer environment and reduced emissions in energy production and transport.

Founded in 1957 under the Treaty of Rome, established on 31 October 1962 and located close to the seaside amidst the dunes of Petten (North-Holland) on a 24 ha site, the Institute for Advanced Materials (IAM) is part of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. IAM features unique facilities and a 200 person staff organised around five scientific units and one support unit handling administrative and managerial matters. IAM is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for materials sciences and structural integrity technology.
