IRI, Technical University of Delft

The 'Interfacultair Reactor Instituut', IRI is the reactor institute of the Dutch universities, nowadays part of the Technical University of Delft. Most experts in reactor physics in the Netherlands were educated in Delft. The research groups in Delft have many foreign (PhD-) students.

The institute, which has considerable expertise in the area of nuclear reactors and associated scientific research, is the Dutch national centre for training and re- search in this field. Its principal scientific activities are materials research using neutrons and positrons, as well as other nuclear techniques, physical aspects of nuclear reactors, research in radiation physics, radio- chemistry, radiation chemistry, detection of (sub-)atomic radiation and environmental research.

The institute's facilities comprise a 2 MW swimmingpool nuclear reactor, a 3 MV pulsed electron-accelerator and various facilities for research with radionuclides and nuclear radiation.

Teaching activities include courses for MSc and PhD students, as well as a broad range of courses in health physics and in applications of nuclear techniques.

The institute has approximately 210 employees, of whom 135 are directly involved in scientific research and education.
