Radiation & Environment - NORM management

The continued involvement of NRG with Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material (NORM) covers radiation protection as well as waste aspects. NORM arises in various industrial processes in which raw materials containing radionuclides from the natural decay chains of uranium and thorium are being used.

NORM

NORM appears as radioactive scaling in process equipment and as process residues with enhanced radionuclide concentrations. But mineral wool, which has been used on a large scale as high temperature resistant insulation often contains NORM. Examples of processes producing NORM are the production of phosfate, iron, phosfate fertiliser, titanium oxide pigment, and oil and gas.

Services

NRG provides radiation protection consultancy, operational support and analytical and decontamination services to various industries. In addition NRG has carried out several studies in support of new legislation (law making) by the Dutch government with regard to NORM related radiation protection and waste safety.

Example project: SMOPIE

SMOPIE, optimization of protection against internal exposures of workers from industrial natural sources.

Reporting

The results of a study are alway recorded in a document. You are free to use it for your internal or external communication. Smaller studies can be reported in a letter or a presentation

Our customers

Clients for our services are from national goverments, supra national organisations (EC, EU, OECD/NEA, IAEA), companies and NGOs.
