Service:
Medical services by several product groups
NRG offers a wide range of services and products for the medical sectors. The services are offered by a combination of product groups. They are presented on this page for easy reference.
Isotope production
-
Isotope production for medical and other purposes
The product group 'Life Cycle innovations & Isotopes' (LCI) offers information, among others a list of isotopes produced in Petten.
NRG is a major producer of radionuclides for the medical sectors and supplies about 60% of European demand. In addition to the 'bulk production' special products are produced in small batches.
Additional services with medical applications
- Person dosimetry by the Dosimetry service
NRG serves 90% of the users of dosimeter badges in the Netherlands and also undertakes the registration of the doses. - Radiobiology and radiation protection
The product group Radiation & Environment (RE) supplies these services.
- Radioactivity analysis & isotope analysis
Laboratory service. Measurement of alpha-, beta, and gamma activity in all types of matrices. Also non-standard complex analyses with difficult matrices, or with requirement of low detection limits. - Education in radiation protection
With diplomas, all officially recognized by the Dutch government. In addition, tailor-made special courses have been developed on various related topics.
- Shielding calculations by the group LCI
NRG's staff has a broad experience in the development and use of leading edge methods for radiation physics applications. Radiation Transport and Reactor Physics are the key areas of expertise
Special projects
- BNCT-irradiation of patients
NRG facilitates the irradiation of brain tumors, using the BNCT technique. The irradiations of patients in Petten are part of a European medical programme. Several research institutes (like the JRC and NRG in Petten) and hospitals (like the VU hospital in Amsterdam) participate in the programme.
NRG has no influence on the selection of patients. Requests for treatments thus should not be sent to NRG.
The coordination of the medical programme is undertaken by the university of Essen (Germany).
