Information for visitors to NRG-Petten

NRG and the Netherlands Energy research foundation ECN are located in the dunes of North Holland, near Petten in the area of Zijpe. Petten/Zijpe is 50 kilometers North of Amsterdam.

Travelling by car from the South (the Hague, Schiphol, Utrecht):

• At the junctions of the A4 (Den Haag), the A2 (Utrecht) and the A1 (Amersfoort), follow signs for Haarlem (A9) and then continue to Alkmaar A9.
• At the roundabout joining the A9 to the Alkmaar by-pass (verkeersplein Kooimeer; South of Alkmaar) follow signs to Den Helder (N9).
• As soon as you spot some dozen of wind turbines across the channel, be alert to turn left at Burgervlotbrug follow signs to (ECN) Petten (image: 15k).
• drive all the way until you see a camp site at your right hand side
• At the intersection, turn right.
• Follow that road until you find the NRG and ECN premises at your left hand.
  

Travelling by public transport from Schiphol airport to Petten:

• Take train direction Amsterdam, make sure you get one which stops at station "Amsterdam-Sloterdijk";
• From Amsterdam-Sloterdijk take the train to Alkmaar/Den Helder;
• From Alkmaar railway station to Petten it is approximately a 20 km drive by car/taxi.
• If you want to use the bus: Bus 151 takes you from Alkmaar to Den Helder. Ask the the driver to warn you when to get off the bus for NRG/ECN.

Travelling by public transport from Julianadorp to Petten:
If you want to use the bus: Bus 151 takes you from Julianadorp to Alkmaar. Ask the the driver to warn you when to get off the bus for NRG/ECN. The trip to Petten takes about 30 minutes.

Route to Hotels (Bergen) from Schiphol airport
Many visitors stay in hotels in the small town of Bergen, here is some travelling information.
 
By car...
From the A9, Amsterdam/Alkmaar you take the Bergen exit, N9. Then you take the N510 in the direction of Bergen center. Ask your hotel for detailed directions.
 
By public transport...
From Schiphol Airport, take train direction Amsterdam, make sure you get one which stops at station "Amsterdam-Sloterdijk". From Amsterdam-Sloterdijk take the train to Alkmaar/Den Helder. Get out at Alkmaar.
From Alkmaar railway station to Bergen you can go by taxi or:
bus 160, direction Schoorl
bus 162, direction Bergen
Ask the driver to warn you when to get out.
